Sky-High Snacks: Creative Ways to Hang Bird Feeders from a Second-Story Window
Not everyone with a love for birds has a backyard, a porch, or even a tree. Some of us are watching from the second floor, mug of coffee in hand, trying to figure out how to bring the buffet to the birds without rappelling down the siding.
If you've got a second-floor window, a healthy curiosity, and a little creativity (plus an Amazon account), you’re in luck. Here are some clever, renter-friendly ways to get feeders out your window — with a few tried-and-true tricks from my own birdwatching setup.
1. Suction Cup Hooks & Feeders
Don’t underestimate a good suction cup — I’ve used them myself to hang smaller feeders right from the window glass. Look for industrial-strength versions that boast weight ratings and weatherproof designs. Bonus if they come with stabilizing arms to reduce swing in the wind.
Tip: Clean your window with rubbing alcohol first for extra stick power. And always test the hold before loading up the seed buffet!
